The figures for Elrora: size, speed, power and water

Elrora measures 23.74 m on deck and 6.2 m across the beam, and she cruises at 7 to 10 knots. Her hull is ironwood. A 40 kVA generator runs the boat, a second 40 kVA set stands by, and the tanks hold eight thousand litres of fresh water.

For navigation and safety the boat carries radar, GPS, an echo sounder, AIS Class A, and VHF and SSB radio, and life jackets are on board.

If a figure decides your booking, say so in your first message. We answer in writing before you pay.

Beds and bathrooms, deck by deck

On the main deck is the Master cabin, with a king bed and a balcony of its own. Climb one level and you reach the two Deluxe cabins, a queen bed in each. Below, on the lower deck, the two Superior cabins also have queen beds, with a porthole for light. The Family cabin sleeps four on a double and two singles, again with a porthole; its deck is shown on your written cabin plan.

All six cabins come with a bathroom inside and air conditioning. The total is 14 guests on standard beds.

Advisor's note. Three decks mean stairs. If anyone in your party finds steps hard, tell us before cabins are assigned, and that guest gets the deck that saves the most climbing.

Dining room, deck table and sundeck

Meals are served indoors, in a dining room with windows onto the sea, or outside at the deck table when the weather allows. Above it all is the sundeck, the open place to sit as the light changes over Padar and Kalong.

The fare covers drinking water, coffee and tea. Other drinks are not, and neither are park tickets. We have no seat counts for the dining room, so a large party should ask whether everyone sits together.

Breakfast at the deck table is the best hour of light on the water. If anyone in your party has a dietary need, tell us before departure: we pass it to the kitchen and reply in writing with what the galley can do, and we do not promise a dish it cannot make.

Navigation, radio and life jackets

The wheelhouse carries radar, GPS, an echo sounder and AIS Class A, which broadcasts the boat's position to other vessels. Communication runs over VHF and SSB radio. Life jackets are on board, and the snorkelling gear arrives with life vests.

That is the equipment documented for the boat. It is not a complete safety inventory, and we name nothing beyond it. Anything else you need to know, ask in writing before you pay. On the water, the captain sets the day's route according to the weather, and that decision stands.

Part of safety sits with the guests: listen to the briefing, wear the life vest at every snorkel stop, keep to the paths on the walks. Children and older guests put a vest on whenever the crew asks.

What the word phinisi tells you about her build

Phinisi names a type of traditional Indonesian wooden sailing vessel. Elrora belongs to that tradition and is built of ironwood, a dense timber used for hulls that spend years in warm salt water.

The word tells you the style of boat, not the layout. Two phinisi can differ in every deck, cabin and bathroom, so judge Elrora by her own plan: three decks, six ensuite cabins, an indoor dining room, a deck table and a sundeck. That plan is what you are paying for.

A wooden hull also asks something of you. Expect a little movement underfoot and planks that warm up in the midday sun. If either worries you, the guide to seasickness and cabins explains what to expect.

FAQ

How many cabins and beds does Elrora have?

Elrora has six cabins on three decks: one Master with a king bed, two Deluxe and two Superior with queen beds, and one Family cabin with a double bed and two singles. A private bathroom and air conditioning come with each cabin. On standard beds the boat takes 14 guests, and a larger party needs a second boat.

Are the cabins safe and comfortable for children and older guests?

Every guest has a life jacket. No fare is charged for a child of 2 or under travelling with a parent or guardian. At 3 the adult fare starts. Stairs link the three decks, so tell us about any difficulty with steps before cabins are fixed. The captain chooses each day's stops by the weather.
