Elrora Liveaboard

Grandparents, parents and children, each with a door of their own

Updated 2 November 2026

A multigenerational Komodo family trip on a private phinisi suits Elrora Liveaboard because it has 6 ensuite cabins on three decks, so each generation sleeps in its own room. Children aged 0 to 2 travel free. The Family cabin takes four, and the whole boat takes 14.

Grandparents, parents and children on one boat

Three generations seldom travel at one speed. Grandparents look for shade and a chair, parents for sunrise on Padar, children for the water. With six separate cabins, each of them keeps their own hours and nobody wakes anybody else.

Elrora has 6 cabins on three decks and room for 14 guests. Each cabin contains a bathroom and air conditioning of its own, so nobody queues for a shower at night. On a private charter, the whole family has the boat to itself.

Six or eight relatives fit easily within the 14. A family of fourteen fills every cabin; any more, and a second boat is needed.

Who sleeps on which deck

The main deck holds the Master cabin, with a king bed and a balcony of its own. Two Deluxe cabins are on the upper deck with queen beds. The lower deck holds two Superior cabins, each with a queen bed and a porthole. The Family cabin takes four, on a double bed and two singles, and its deck is shown on your written cabin plan.

A common plan for three generations puts the grandparents in the Master cabin, the parents in a Deluxe cabin and the children in the Family cabin or a second Deluxe. Another gives the grandparents a Deluxe cabin beside the sundeck. Which works depends on who manages stairs easily.

Advisor's note. Three decks mean stairs. Tell us who finds steps difficult, and we describe the stairs with the cabin plan. We put the answer in writing.

A gentler version of the three days

The 3D2N route holds three climbs and a dragon walk, and none of them is compulsory. Kelor on the first afternoon is short and steep. Padar on the second morning is the early start. Komodo Island is a walk with a ranger, on a trail the ranger chooses.

With grandparents aboard, here is the plan we suggest. Climb Kelor together, as it is short. Let those who prefer a late breakfast skip Padar and wait on board. Take the Komodo walk on its shorter trail. Spend the afternoon at Pink Beach, where the water is shallow near the shore, and let the reef stops at Taka Makassar and Manta Point depend on the current.

Manta Point runs with a current that suits confident swimmers; others stay aboard or keep a life vest on. The captain decides which stops go ahead on the day.

Children's fares and what each age needs

Children up to age 2 travel free in the company of a parent or guardian. From age 3, the full fare applies. For a baby or a toddler, tell us the ages when you write, so that the cabin plan fits.

Young children need shade, a hat and water on every walk, and a life vest at every swim. Teenagers need little beyond a reason to get up for Padar. If you want the youngest and the oldest close to the parents, ask and we plan the cabins that way.

Passport details for every child are collected 7 days before sailing.

Life jackets, hikes and the captain's decisions

Life jackets are on board, and the snorkelling gear includes life vests. Children and weaker swimmers wear a vest in the water whenever the crew asks. The boat carries radar, GPS, an echo sounder, AIS Class A, and VHF and SSB radio.

Ashore, the paths are the main risk. Kelor and Padar are steep with loose ground, so sturdy shoes matter more than anything else you pack. At Komodo Island a ranger leads every walk and sets the rules for the group.

Each day the captain chooses the stops with weather and sea in mind. When a stop is dropped, conditions are the reason, and no one in your family is asked to go against the captain's judgement.

Arithmetic for six or eight relatives

Six relatives in three generations can take the Family cabin for four and a Deluxe cabin for two: four seats at IDR 6,500,000 and two seats at IDR 9,750,000. Two cabins are not enough for an open trip to sail, so a third cabin or other guests complete the minimum.

Eight relatives can take the Master cabin, a Deluxe cabin and the Family cabin: two seats at IDR 11,500,000, two at IDR 9,750,000 and four at IDR 6,500,000. Three cabins meet the minimum by themselves, so the date is secure once the deposit is in.

Those are seat fares on a shared date. The whole boat for your family alone is quoted in writing, and the park tickets are paid on top of both.

FAQ

Is Elrora safe for grandparents and young children, and up to what age does a child sail free?

Life jackets are on board, the snorkelling gear includes life vests, and the captain picks each stop with weather and sea in mind. Stairs link the decks, so tell us about any difficulty with steps. The fare is waived for a child aged 0 to 2 who travels with a parent, and it applies in full from age 3.

Do my children need to be strong swimmers?

No, but the snorkel stops differ. The water is shallow at Pink Beach and Taka Makassar. At Manta Point the current favours confident swimmers, so children and weaker swimmers keep a life vest on or stay aboard. A parent should stay within reach, and the crew advises at each stop.

Do we need travel insurance, and what about vaccinations?

We recommend travel insurance for each guest; the cancellation schedule on the terms page shows why. For vaccinations, we cannot give medical advice. Ask your own doctor before you travel, and bring any personal medicines in your hand luggage.
