Your own boat or one cabin among others: how to choose
Updated 2 November 2026
Taking the whole phinisi for your party or one cabin on a shared date is a trade of privacy against price. A cabin seat on Elrora Liveaboard is from IDR 6,500,000 per person, with other guests on deck. The whole boat, for up to 14 guests, is quoted in writing.
Whole boat or one cabin: the difference in a table
The table sets the two choices side by side. The whole boat means your party alone, any free date outside July and August, trip lengths from two to four days, and a price quoted in writing. A cabin means a set 3D2N sailing, other guests on deck, a printed fare per person and a minimum of three cabins booked for the trip to go ahead.
Start with the row that matters most to you. A date fixed by a wedding or the school calendar makes the first row decisive; a fixed budget, the price row. If privacy is why you are travelling at all, look at the third.
The route, the food and the cabins are identical either way, because it is the same boat. Only two things change: who else is aboard, and who shapes the day.
| Format | nights | From | Sunrise stop |
|---|---|---|---|

| Open trip on Elrora Liveaboard | 2 | IDR 6,500,000 per person | |
| Private charter on Elrora Liveaboard | 1/2/3 | On request | |

Four people, both ways, priced
Four guests have two ways to use the seats. Two Deluxe cabins take four seats at IDR 9,750,000, one couple in each. Or the Family cabin takes all four in one room at four seats at IDR 6,500,000, with a double bed and two singles. The Family cabin keeps all four behind one door; two Deluxe cabins give each couple its own door and bathroom.
For the same four people the whole boat has no printed price; it depends on the date and the length of the trip, and we write it for you once we have your dates. We leave the comparison to you, with both figures in writing in front of you.
Either way, add the park tickets, which are always paid apart from the fare.

Privacy, pace and who chooses the stops
With the boat to yourselves, your party sets the tempo, inside the limits of the weather and the captain's judgement. Breakfast can run late, and the deck is yours. A grandmother tired after the climb stays on board, and no stranger is waiting for the boat to move.
A shared date is different. Other guests are on deck, and stops and hours are set for the whole boat. You will sit with them at meals and meet them on the paths. Some guests enjoy that; for others it is the very reason to charter.
Weather still orders the stops on a charter, and the captain still makes the final call each morning. Chartering the whole boat does not change that.
The cases where one cabin is the wiser booking
Book a single cabin if you are a couple who enjoy company and prefer the lower fare. Two friends content with a Superior cabin, at IDR 7,500,000 each, fit here too. A family of four who need only the Family cabin fits here as well.
A cabin is also the only choice in July and August, when no private charter is sold. And a party booking three cabins on its own meets the minimum, so its sailing is secure without waiting for anyone else.
You give up nothing on route, cabins or food compared with the whole boat. The table lists the dates and the seat fares. Cabin fares are per person, and two share each cabin. If a date fails to reach three cabins, we say so in writing and offer another date or a refund under the terms.
| Cabins | Deck | per person |
|---|---|---|
| Master Cabin | Main deck | IDR 11,500,000 |
| Deluxe Cabin | Upper deck | IDR 9,750,000 |
| Superior Cabin | Lower deck | IDR 7,500,000 |
| Family Cabin | — | IDR 6,500,000 |

Open-trip dates follow the supplier's schedule and are not a weekly pattern. A trip sails only when at least three cabins are booked. Next departures: 6 November 2026, 9 November 2026, 13 November 2026, 16 November 2026

Constants across both choices
Certain things hold however you book. Each cabin keeps its private bathroom and its air conditioning. Meals on board, drinking water, coffee and tea, and snorkelling gear with life vests are inside the fare. The route visits the same stops in both cases, in an order the captain settles on the day.
Outside the fare in both cases: park tickets, any drinks beyond those named, crew tips, flights and insurance. No private charter price covers a guide or photo and video documentation, and neither comes with a seat; ask if you want one.
Check-in on a shared sailing is between 10:00 and 10:30, and on a private charter it is set with your date. Either way, a child aged 0 to 2 sails free.

A rule of thumb for deciding
Count the cabins you would actually fill. Five or six, and the whole boat deserves a quote, since you would be paying for most of the berths anyway. One or two, and a seat is the sensible place to start.
Next, the date. Fixed in July or August: take a seat. Flexible and outside those months: ask for both quotes. Last, the people. For honeymooners, and for families spanning three generations, an empty deck is worth more than a lower fare.
Send us the dates and the number of guests, and we return the two options in writing, so that you can choose with both on the table. When the two figures sit close, let the written quotes decide, not this rule.
FAQ
Which type of boat suits Komodo best?
A phinisi with its own cabins suits the park best: you sleep on board and move between stops at dawn and dusk. Elrora has six ensuite, air-conditioned cabins on three decks. A day boat covers fewer stops and cannot reach Padar for sunrise or Kalong for the bats.
Should I take a shared trip or a private boat?
Take a shared trip if the lower fare matters and you accept other guests on deck. Take the whole boat if privacy or pace matters more, or if you are six or more. Both use the same boat and route. Ask for the two quotes side by side and decide with both in front of you.
Is a group tour better than planning Komodo myself?
A boat trip is hard to plan alone, because the stops, the park tickets, the pier and the cabins must all agree. We plan them as one booking. You still choose the cabins, the dates and whether to share the boat, and we put the plan in writing before you pay.
Is a boat stay the comfortable way to see Komodo, even at a higher price?
Sleeping on board means no daily transfers, a bed that travels with you, and Padar at sunrise without a long early ride. That comfort costs more. The fare covers the cabin, meals, water, coffee, tea and snorkelling gear, so the added cost buys time rather than things.
How does an open trip differ from a private trip on Elrora?
An open trip is a set 3D2N sailing where guests book cabins and share the boat, with printed fares from IDR 6,500,000 per person. A private trip hands your party the entire boat for two to four days, at a price written down for you. July and August are open trips only.
