Sebayur: easy reef and a beach on the way home
Updated 2 November 2026
Sebayur island is a snorkel stop with a beach and an easy reef, outside the dragon trekking area. On Elrora Liveaboard's three-day route the final snorkel stop on the third morning is Sebayur or Kanawa, and the captain chooses between them on the day.
Sebayur on the third morning
Sebayur lies off Flores, the larger island of a small group that shares its name. Beaches and nearby reefs make it a place for a snorkel and a beach rest, and it lies outside the area where dragons are trekked. It is the quiet end of the route, a place to slow down once the treks are done.
On the three-day route the third morning has one more snorkel stop, which is Sebayur or Kanawa. The boat then returns to Labuan Bajo, where open-trip guests check out between 11:00 and 11:30. The stop is short because the morning is.
A longer private route can give Sebayur more time, if the captain agrees. The four-day sample, for instance, sets aside a whole morning for it and for Kanawa.
Looking down onto the Sebayur reef
The reef is easy. The reef sits 2 to 10 metres down, the current is mild, and a 45 to 90 minute snorkel is normal. Every level of swimmer can use it, and the life vests carried on board are there for anyone who wants them.
The reef is the point. Look down at it slowly. The small things repay the effort: the colour of the coral, the way fish gather at the edge, the line where the reef ends in sand.
Keep clear of the coral and let the vest hold you above it. The third morning is a gentle goodbye to the water, not a test. A guest who has been nervous at Manta Point can finish the trip here with a calm swim, and the guest who has loved every reef can simply take longer over this one.
Sebayur or Kanawa: which one you get
The captain chooses between Sebayur and Kanawa on the day. Sea state, time and the state of the tide all weigh, and the boat does not announce its choice in advance. We do not promise either stop on the open trip.
Sebayur is farther from Labuan Bajo than Kanawa, which is a reason the captain may prefer the nearer island when the morning is short. A guest who has a particular wish should tell us when booking, so that we can write it into the request.
On a private route the request can be written into the quote, and the captain still decides on the day. We would rather say that plainly now than let a wish be read as a booking.
Heading back to port from Sebayur
From Sebayur the boat returns to Labuan Bajo. Open-trip guests check out between 11:00 and 11:30, and the exact hour of arrival depends on the sea and the captain.
Your flight out on the last day should leave no earlier than 14:00. A booking for noon is a gamble, and the gamble is not worth the saving. Lunch in town, a shower and an hour in a shop all fit before a flight at 14:00 or later.
If your flight is early, tell us now. We can suggest a night in town after the pier, or a later flight, and we plan the final morning around whichever you choose. Say so in your first message, because the plan is easier to change before the dates are held.
FAQ
Can we ask for Sebayur on the third day?
Ask when you book. On an open trip the captain chooses between Sebayur and Kanawa on the day, so a request is a wish rather than a promise. On a private charter we write your request into the quote, and the captain still decides on the sea and the time.
